Motion & Illusion: The Art of Animation and its Secrets (ENG)
What is motion and how is it perceived, simulated, and created in respect of classic animation?
Starting with the question about what motion itself actually is, this book takes that knowledge and couples it with the art of animation. Animation is a quick succession of images. Objects in these images slightly change their position from frame to frame which makes them appear to move. Movement, however, is not animation. It is HOW things move. But how does something behave as if it was affected by gravity and had mass, even though it is a flat and weightless drawing? How does something as intangible as lightning act in drawn form? How do flames blaze? Droplets drip? Rivers flow? Whips whip? Animators animate?
And how is it possible to trick our eyes into believing that we are seeing motion, when there actually is none?
